A BRIEF HISTORY of AYUTTHAYA
Ayutthaya, once a powerful and magnificent capital, holds a significant place in the history of Thailand. Located just north of modern-day Bangkok, Ayutthaya flourished as the capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom for over four centuries, leaving behind a rich and illustrious legacy.
The Founding of Ayutthaya:
Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 by King Ramathibodi I, who established it as the capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. The strategic location on an island at the confluence of three rivers not only served as a natural defense but also facilitated trade and communication with neighboring regions.
Cultural Melting Pot:
Ayutthaya welcomed people from various ethnic backgrounds and played a pivotal role in fostering cultural exchange.
